At Superior Gearbox Company, we’ve manufactured high-quality gear drives for power transmission systems for over 45 years. One of our core product offerings is low input speed worm gear reducers.
Speed reducers—also referred to as gearboxes or gear reducers—are mechanical devices that serve two functions. The first function, as suggested by the name, is reducing the input speed so the output speed is appropriate for the application. The second function is multiplying the input torque provided by the power source. These functions are accomplished by employing a worm (a component that resembles a screw) and worm gear (a component similar to a spur gear). This design results in the input gear completing more rotations than the output gear in the same period, leading to decreased speed and increased torque.

Applications of Worm Gear Reducers
Worm gear reducers are available in several sizes, styles, configurations, and gear ratios. They are generally used for power transmission applications requiring a large ratio with limited space constraints. Compared to other types of gear reducers, they offer the smoothest and quietest operation. However, higher gear ratios result in lower efficiency.
Low Input Speed Worm Gear Reducers at Superior Gearbox Company
We offer fives lines of low input speed worm gear reducers.
V210 Series
Our V210 series worm gear reducers feature a two-piece aluminum housing, precision machined components, 1-inch input shaft, 1.25-inch output shaft, and tapered roller bearings. They are in left-hand or right-hand configurations and gear ratios of 5:1, 10:1, and 20:1. Each unit weighs about 20/25 pounds, including 14 ounces of lubricant.
5:1 ratio units have four threadworms and 20-tooth bronze gear. 10:1 ratio units have two threadworms and 20-tooth bronze gear. 20:1 ratio units have one threadworm and 20-tooth bronze gear.
W260 Series
Our W260 series worm gear reducers consist of a two-piece aluminum housing, precision machined components, 1-inch input shaft, 1.5-inch hollow bore or 2-inch solid output shaft, and tapered roller bearings. They are in left-hand or right-hand configurations and gear ratios of 12.5:1, 25:1, and 50:1. Each unit weighs about 50/55 pounds, including 95 ounces of lubricant.
12.5:1 ratio units have four threadworms and 50-tooth bronze gear. 25:1 ratio units have two threadworms and 50-tooth bronze gear. 50:1 ratio units have one threadworm and 50-tooth bronze gear.
I210 Series
Our I210 series worm gear reducers feature a one-piece iron housing, 1-inch input shaft, 1.25-inch output shaft, and tapered roller bearing. They are available with a standard gear ratio of 20:1 (one threadworm and a 20-tooth bronze gear) in left-hand or right-hand configurations. Each unit weighs about 35 pounds, including 8 ounces of lubricant.
I260 Series
Our I260 series worm gear reducers consist of a one-piece iron housing, 1-inch input shaft, 2-inch solid or hollow bore output shaft, and tapered roller bearings. They are in left-hand or right-hand configurations and gear ratios of 25:1 and 50:1. Each unit weighs about 80/85 pounds, including 46 ounces of lubricant.
25:1 ratio units have two threadworms and 50-tooth bronze gear. 50:1 ratio units have one threadworm and 50-tooth bronze gear.
I280 Series
Our I280 series worm gear reducers feature a one-piece iron housing, 1.25-inch input shaft, 2-inch hollow bore output shaft, and tapered roller bearings. They are available with a standard gear ratio of 50:1 (one threadworm and a 50-tooth bronze gear) in left-hand or right-hand configurations. Each unit weighs about 100/110 pounds, including 88 ounces of lubricant.
